To finish up our China Week,
We had a treasure hunt for the dragon we made.
Just like in the book Jin Jin the Dragon.
Yesterday we made a dragon.
We started out with these supplies:
She strung the toilet paper rolls on two pipe cleaners,
and went to town.
She was playing pretend all while making it.
In the book, Jin Jin finds writing on a rock and a log,
That helps him find his way.
She painted a rock we found in the garden, along with a log.
After my kids went to sleep,
I wrote on the rock in Chinese characters.
I just used glitter and glue and put it in the oven for 5 min, so it wouldn't drip.
It says, "sun, river, forest."
In the morning, I hid the rock and the log.
We used it like a map to find our way.
She was delighted to find her dragon and some candy,
That was hidden in the tree.
And she played pretend with her the rest of the day.
P.S. I love the way Baby H. is looking up at his sister!
This is so neat. I've been wary of doing crafts with my 2yo because he still eats everything...do you have any suggestions?

ReplyDeleteI love the way you layed out your craft.
What a grea idea! We will be doing china in a couple of weeks so we might have to snag your idea!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love the dragon, and I absolutely love how you put all the craft supplies in a muffin tin. What a fun idea! I've never read that book before and it sounds like fun. I really like your idea of using the rock just like in the story as a map. I can tell from the picture how much she enjoyed this activity!
ReplyDeleteI have loved reading through your China week. I thought it was awesome how you had the foreign exchange students come over.
Good Luck with your new preschool. It sounds like it's going to be great!
I think that's so cool that you bring the stories to life, so to speak.
