We learned about wind by flying kites and making kites.
We had a blast flying kites!
The wind was crazy!
Lucky me, because Mr. Handsome is great with kids!
Miss Sweetie Pie was getting a tad bored,
but when he flew the kite low and she could catch it,
and help throw it back in the air,
she LOVED it!
Then we went home and made some kites.
First, I hot glued some Popsicle sticks together.
Then she picked out the fabric she wanted to use,
and decorated it.
Baby H. was having a ball as well.
Right here he is singing.
I also let her decorate it with glitter glue and fabric paint.
Which got on her brand new dress :(
But I ripped it off of her and ran it in the bath faucet under HOT water, it seems to have come out fine. (few!)
Making kites made me think about shapes,
so I had her sort shapes,
showing her that a rhombus and a parallelogram look like kites.
I also let her play with my pattern block stamps.
I made a quick picture first so she could get the idea.
Mine is on the right.
She had a BLAST with these!
Her imagination just took off.
It was so much better giving her an example,
If I would have just told her what to do,
she would have used them for 2 minutes and not had very much fun.
There are two Rapunzels each holding a kite,
next to them is a tower.
Hers turned out WAY better than mine!
This are our old posts that we did about the wind:
Aaaah what a fabulous kite filled post! Love all the photos. Adorable.

Fun ideas ... kites are a great addition to a weather unit! I featured your post at the Living Montessori Now Facebook page and pinned it to my Weather Unit Study Pinterest board at http://pinterest.com/debchitwood/weather-unit-study/
ReplyDeleteGreat weather-related activities. I love those stamps, and Sid the Science Kid is a big hit around here.
